My Child Does not Like School, My Child is a Dreamer and Can't Sit Still
Kids need more time to tinker, daydream, and play.
Kids need less school, not more.
They shorter school days, not longer.
Fewer classes not more.
Shorter school years, not longer.
Faraday, Curie, Edison, Jobs, Wozniak, Hewlett and Packard were tinkerers. More useful and cutting edge science has been discovered in a cluttered lab than any classroom. More inventions have taken place in the garage than in a conference room.
Einstein didn't pay attention and skipped classes. He was bored with school (except for subjects that interested him). He was a dreamer. He also enjoyed tinkering, and his dad had a warehouse full of electrical equipment.
I have an earned MS and a Doctorate and taught graduate level classes at universities for 20 years. I am not against education, but it must also include plenty of time for discovery.
Here's another interesting fact. Einstein didn't even talk until he was 8. Those of you who are debating whether to put your kids in preschool might want to read Better Late Than Early, a classic book in child development, written by Raymond Moore.
Parents, if you want a really good read - try Theoretical Physicist Dr. Michio Kaku's wonderful book about Einstein, called Einstein's Cosmos. I found it at the library. I read it three times and then ordered a used copy for myself.
"Modern physics eschews discovery through experimentation for observation based upon theory. It has rendered itself incapable of seeing anything unexpected "
